Food for My Soul

I went to Farmer Brown on Wednesday night and was pleasantly surprised.  I had envisioned a cozy dining spot with chefs in white aprons speaking in Southern drawls.  Nothing of that sort, though the dim lights and orange glazed sconces did make me feel warm and fuzzy.  Everything was quite the opposite, gritty and modern, adorned in dark wood paneling and copper tables.  It sits on a dilapidated corner of the Tenderloin, close enough to Union Square that you feel safe walking the streets, but far enough that there are more bums than shoppers walking alongside you.

That kind of stuff never bothers me though.  Finding little gems in unexpected places is one of the things that I enjoy about the city.  The food was good and everything was decently priced.  The menu - a mixture of fried chicken, jambalaya, mac&cheese, po' boys, and other "neo-soul" dishes.

I'll definitely go back.  I'm such a sucker for all foods bad for you, especially fried chicken.  Mmm, mmm.
